As many of you know, I went with a group down to Ecuador a few weeks ago. One of the things we got to do was to photograph in a girls home there. We were told while we were there that the girls had to share “everything”. This means clothes, school supplies, everything. They really don’t have anything that is their own.
One of the girls showed Jen Hillenga her own treasure bag that she was hiding under her mattress. It was an old zip-lock that contained a rock, a marble and other items that she could call her “own”.
We talked to the nuns who run the school about perhaps making each of the girls there an Image Box with their own image on it that they could keep and have as theirs. The nuns teared up as we talked about it, and we knew this was something we had to do.
Travis Gugleman has organized a delivery of the image boxes for us. WHCC has agreed to the printing. (WOW. What a gift. Please tell them thank you for all they do!!!)
What we would like from YOU: Any small donation that could fill these boxes. We want to send over an amazing gift for these girls. We know they will love their image boxes, but they also truly treasure anything that they can be proud of to take to school or claim as their own. This could be lip gloss, stickers, inexpensive jewelry items, small toys, cute pens and pencils to take to school, etc.
If you would consider sending an item for the boxes, I think this would be a blessed project to do with your studio or your family. We are so fortunate.
Thank you for considering. If you have something you’d like to send, we are sending 30 boxes. Please send items/donations to:
